Sammy Duke
Folk/Rock
Waterloo, ON, Canada

You'd never mistake Sammy Duke for anyone else the moment he starts performing onstage. Described as a "troubadour prog-rocker" by No Depression Magazine, he captivates audiences with his infectious live energy, spontaneous spurts of audience participation, self-deprecating wit, and folk-fusion sound that blends world-beat rhythms, and soulful vibes. With his musical diversity and engaging stage persona, Duke entrances and comforts audiences of all kinds.
Sammy Duke is also highly recognized for his multi-instrumental skills. Most notably, his one-man-band show, where he performs on up to EIGHT instruments at the same time. He simultaneously sings, plays guitar, bass synthesizer pedals, foot percussion, hand drums, and even performs with his elbow - as in the case of his famed “elbow chimes.
Outside of his own music, Sammy Duke can also be seen recording and touring as a sideman for a number of Canadian artists. He has performed for Amai Kuda, Cecile Monique, Rese D’Vynne, Tanika Charles, String Bone, Arun Pal, and most notably, Indo-Tanzanian Canadian recording artist and producer, Alysha Brilla. He’s appeared both in solo and and sideman capacities on Rogers TV, Global TV, Breakfast Television, CBC Radio One, and CP24 Breakfast Weekend - the last of which tweeted "Our jaws are still dropped from the incredibly talented @sammydukemusic performance this morning!" Sammy also works as a musical educator in the Waterloo Region, and leads accessible drumming circles and other musical workshops for youth, elderly, and persons with special needs through community living organizations and local school boards.
With a growing reputation for an "unorthodox playing" of instruments, thoughtful lyrics, and an absolutely unmistakable live show, Sammy Duke is a must see performer. "And if you're still not convinced, Duke's bluesy voice will get you.” (CBC Music)
